An incredible event connecting culture and technology
The next edition of the Europeana conference is scheduled for June 11–12, 2025. The event will be hybrid, taking place both online and at the POLIN Museum in Warsaw. Europeana is an initiative aimed at preserving and sharing cultural heritage in digital form for a wider audience, for both academic and personal purposes. A rich gallery of images, texts, films, and an open API are meant to inspire and encourage creation, engagement, and open dialogue about the benefits of cultural heritage. This year’s conference theme invites participants to cultivate, protect, and reuse cultural resources. Partners of this year's Europeana conference include the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, with the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union as the patron of the event.

Zanzibar – further steps in protecting World Cultural Heritage
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Stone Town, the oldest part of Zanzibar's capital, being added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. This anniversary serves as a reminder that, despite previous initiatives, the protection of the archipelago's culture remains a significant challenge. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has announced plans to strengthen cooperation with Zanzibar. Stone Town is a historic location where Arab, Swahili, Persian, European, and Indian cultures intersect. The initiative aims to promote Zanzibar's unique culture. Many of its buildings are scheduled for renovation, including the Palace of Wonders, which served as the ceremonial residence of Sultan Barghash, and The Majestic Cinema, Zanzibar’s last remaining cinema, designed by local architect Dayalji Pitamber Sachania, which is set to become a central hub for Swahili culture.

UNESCO and Ghana – promoting Africa
UNESCO has signed a partnership agreement with Ghana’s Bambu Heritage Productions to promote African history. The collaboration aims to popularize knowledge about Africa’s history through film and media productions, especially among young people. The initiative seeks to showcase the continent's rich heritage, combat stereotypes, and strengthen the cultural identity of Africans. The project aligns with UNESCO’s broader efforts in education, intercultural dialogue, and peace building through a better understanding of shared human history.
